It’s hard to believe, but Rick reminded me the other day that our daughter will be 10 in just two months. It feels like only yesterday that she was a tiny bundle in my arms, and now she's on the brink of becoming a preteen. This incredible journey has been a whirlwind of love, joy, and growth. As I reflect, I’m filled with a blend of nostalgia and excitement for the future. Watching her blossom into a radiant, artistic young woman is both a privilege and a bittersweet experience.
As a doula, I witness the beauty and challenges of parenthood in its many stages, from those early, sleep-deprived days with newborns to the complex emotions that come with raising a soon-to-be preteen. While friends are navigating the delicate dance of nap schedules and diaper changes, I find myself in a new phase. The luxury of sleeping in on weekends, knowing my daughter can start her day independently, is something I never imagined a decade ago. It’s a strange, wonderful transition, full of pride.
The approach of puberty is both exciting and a little daunting. I know it will bring its own set of challenges, but I am filled with confidence in the strong foundation we’ve built. I look at my daughter and see a kind, thoughtful soul who navigates the world with grace and empathy. She is, quite simply, a joy to be around. Watching her grow into this remarkable person fills me with immense pride and deep gratitude. She embodies everything I could have hoped for, and more.
Parenthood has a way of surprising you, of making you grow in ways you never anticipated. Each stage of my daughter’s life has taught me something new, not just about her, but about myself. I’ve learned to approach challenges with more patience, to see the world through her curious eyes, and to cherish the small, fleeting moments that make up our days.
As we stand on the cusp of this next chapter, I feel a mix of emotions—sadness for the end of her childhood, but also a thrill for what lies ahead. There’s a beauty in this transition, in watching her step into her own, in knowing that the years of nurturing, guiding, and loving her have brought us to this point.
Parenthood is an ever-evolving journey, filled with moments that take your breath away, challenges that test your limits, and joys that fill your heart to the brim.
